Terms of Service
Last updated: October 4, 2026
These terms cover the CLIO website at clio.iowarp.ai and the project’s connection-registration and support services. CLIO is an open-source AI workspace developed by the Gnosis Research Center at Illinois Tech as part of IOWarp. By using these project services, you agree to these terms.
Open-source software
Section titled “Open-source software”The CLIO software is provided under the BSD 3-Clause License. That license governs your rights to use, modify, and redistribute the software; these terms do not replace it or add restrictions to those rights. Dependencies, extensions, models, and third-party materials may have their own licenses.
Your installation and connected services
Section titled “Your installation and connected services”You choose where CLIO runs, which models and tools it uses, and which data sources it can access. You are responsible for securing your installation and credentials, maintaining backups, and obtaining permission to access or process data. If you act for an organization, you must have authority to connect its accounts and use its information.
An installation operated by your institution or another party may have additional terms. The CLIO project does not operate or administer every CLIO installation. Publishing an OAuth application identity enables provider authorization; it does not give the project control over your workspace or promise a hosted storage service.
Google, Globus, model providers, remote hosts, and other third-party services have their own terms, privacy practices, access requirements, and charges. You are responsible for charges associated with the accounts and services you configure. The project does not guarantee their continued availability or compatibility.
Your data and instructions
Section titled “Your data and instructions”You retain your rights in the content you provide. Using CLIO does not transfer ownership of your files to the project. You authorize the processing and transfers needed to carry out the features you request, subject to the Privacy Policy and the permissions you grant.
Review actions before approving them, particularly commands, remote execution, changes to shared files, and transfers to external services. A link and a download have different effects: a link provides access to source files, while a download creates a copy. Disconnecting a source does not automatically delete copies, outputs, or evidence already retained in a session.
Only submit information you are entitled to use. Do not use project services to break the law, violate others’ rights, gain unauthorized access, disrupt services, or bypass provider security and access controls.
AI output and research use
Section titled “AI output and research use”AI-generated text, code, analyses, and visualizations can be incorrect or incomplete. You are responsible for checking outputs, source evidence, and scientific conclusions before relying on them or sharing them. CLIO does not guarantee accuracy, reproducibility, suitability for a particular purpose, or regulatory compliance. Beta releases may contain defects and change behavior.
Availability and warranties
Section titled “Availability and warranties”The project may change or discontinue its website, connection registrations, or support services. It may restrict access to project-operated services to address abuse, security issues, legal requirements, or provider restrictions. This does not revoke rights granted by the open-source license.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, project services are provided as is and as available, without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The software’s warranty disclaimer and limitations of liability are set out in its BSD 3-Clause License.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the project maintainers and contributors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from project services, including lost data, lost profits, or interrupted work. Nothing in these terms excludes liability or rights that applicable law does not allow to be excluded.
Stopping use, contact, and changes
Section titled “Stopping use, contact, and changes”You can stop using project services, disconnect sources, revoke provider permissions, and uninstall CLIO. Follow the data removal guide to remove information from your installation; deleting the application alone may leave workspace data and backups behind.
The project’s responsible organization and private contact address will be confirmed before these terms are published. For an installation run by another operator, contact that operator for its service terms and support.
Revised terms will be posted on this page with an updated date and apply to subsequent use of project services. They do not change the license attached to software you have already received.
