Analyze your data.
Keep the evidence.
CLIO is an open-source AI workspace for scientific data. Ask a question, explore the results, and inspect the files and steps behind the answer. Run it on your computer with the models you choose.
Review a report beside the conversation.
Keep editable Word and PowerPoint files, and inspect their rendered PDF previews.
The workflow
From a question to an answer you can check.
AskStart from a question about real data.
Describe what you want to know. CLIO finds the data source, pulls real records, and stops to ask you when a choice is yours to make, such as which station to analyze.
Find the five EarthScope GNSS stations nearest Palm Springs and let me pick one.
Your first analysisDelegateExperts work in parallel.
An agent blueprint declares which domain experts a session can call on. They run as child sessions in parallel, and their findings come back as versioned artifacts with lineage.
Agent blueprintsWatchSee every step as it runs.
Agents, child agents, and tool calls appear on one timeline with their arguments and outcomes, so you can follow the work while it happens and check it afterwards.
Memory and evidenceVerifyKeep the evidence with the answer.
Files read, changes proposed, and artifacts created stay attached to the run that produced them. Edits wait for your approval, and each artifact records a content hash.
Permissions and sandboxContinuePick up earlier work.
CLIO can search your past sessions and bring their results into a new question, so analyses build on each other instead of starting over.

Interfaces
Start with the desktop app.
The desktop app is the simplest way to use CLIO. On a server or a shared machine, open the same workspace in a browser or run it in a container.
Prefer the keyboard? After the install script, clio opens a terminal interface. See thecommand-line reference.
Models
Use the models you already trust.
Pick a provider when CLIO first starts, and change it any time from Settings. Each session can use a different model.
On your machine
Your model prompts stay local.

Shape it to your science.
CLIO's domain knowledge lives in blueprints and tools you can read, change, and share, and its safety rules stay under your control.
Agent blueprints
Install domain agents from the marketplace, or write your own in Markdown: instructions, experts, tools, and model defaults.
Tools and MCP servers
Add any MCP server with one line of configuration, per workspace or for every session.
Permissions and sandbox
Approve actions as they come, set rules per workspace, and optionally fence writes at the OS level.
Hooks
Run your own checks before and after tool calls. Hooks can tighten policy but never loosen it.
Download
Get CLIO stable.
These downloads install the latest stable release. Pick your platform. The recommended installer includes the CLIO backend; on first launch, CLIO asks which model to connect.
Other ways to install Stable release notes
Want to try upcoming features? Browse beta releases. Betas may be unstable. After installing, manage beta updates in Settings → Desktop → App updates.
