Exports and downloads

Choose how much of the work to send. A file download saves one output. A dashboard export saves one presentation. A session export includes the conversation and recorded activity, with optional artifacts and workspace files.

What you need What to save What it preserves
One original or editable output Download file in its viewer. The file’s bytes, such as a Word document, PDF, image, or dataset.
One displayed visual The view’s image export, where supported. An image of the displayed view; it does not retain interactive controls.
One connected dashboard HTML in the dashboard viewer, in the development build. The report, tabs, supported interactions, and captured data.
The recorded conversation Transcript HTML. The conversation, activity, embedded viewer resources, and supported saved views.
The conversation and its files Session export with artifacts. A ZIP containing the review plus the session’s referenced and produced artifacts and recorded inputs.
The investigation and workspace Session export with workspace files. The artifact export plus a current snapshot of registered workspace folders.

Downloading an original and converting it are separate actions. For example, keep the editable document when you need to revise it; use its PDF preview or PDF export when you need a rendered copy. See Working with files.

  1. Open the session’s sidebar menu and choose Export session.

  2. Choose the scope. Transcript-only exports use HTML. Adding session artifacts or workspace files changes the download to ZIP.

  3. Download the result. Send the HTML directly, or extract the ZIP and open index.html while keeping the extracted folder together.

The controls differ by build:

Scope Earlier menu Development menu
Transcript only Transcript HTML Leave both checkboxes clear; Download HTML.
Include session files Effects Include session artifacts; Download ZIP.
Include the workspace Full Include workspace files also checks artifacts; Download ZIP.

Artifact inclusion follows this session and its child agents, rather than every session in the workspace. Workspace inclusion also captures the workspace’s other files as they exist at export time, and can make the archive much larger.

CLIORead and inspect an exported sessionScreenshot walkthrough
Real Opal 1 exports: expand Activity, inspect saved skill instructions and command results, open a saved plot, and find included files. Five actual archive states with reading pauses; this is an explanation made from screenshots, not a continuous interaction recording.

The recipient can read the review without CLIO running. Activity shows the recorded calls and results. Files lists included inputs and outputs. Evidence & skills reports recording coverage and uncaptured dependencies. Supported saved views retain their captured interactions; no tool call is rerun when the recipient inspects it.

Exports preserve the recorded content. They do not recreate external services or the installed execution environment. Missing historical artifact versions or skill bodies are reported explicitly. Check that coverage before treating an archive as a complete reproduction package.

See Sessions and modes for the full export contents and the distinction between importing history and restoring a workspace.

HTML and ZIP session exports both count as downloads. In the development desktop build, the header’s Downloads button opens the native history on Windows; on macOS and Linux it opens the Downloads folder. Native transfers reveal that location automatically. Opening the downloaded file itself remains your choice.

In a regular browser, use the browser’s downloads controls. Saving a file does not launch an associated desktop program automatically.

In the development build, an updated artifact appears once in the response at its latest deliverable version. Intermediate files and review images stay available in the evidence and version views. If you explicitly request a PNG, PDF, or other file, it remains a deliverable; its format does not make it intermediate evidence.
